Electrical system

The electrical system in your vehicle distributes vital power to the various electrical components and accessories from your vehicles battery. Your vehicles alternator assists in maintaining the power to your vehicles battery. Below are some important electrical maintenance tips and checks to observe:

Battery

- Batteries can be susceptible to temperature and the level of power that is held. Particularly in colder conditions the amount of power from the battery is reduced.
Maintaining your battery in the following ways can increase its longevity:
- Turn your vehicles engine off prior to undertaking any checks.
- Check for any build up around the battery terminals. Do not come into contact with the build-up.
- Clean away any dirt or moisture from the battery.
- Ensure the connectors to the battery are secure and tight.
- Make sure the battery is securely fastened. If you are unsure about your vehicles battery contact your local Volkswagen Service Centre or refer to the owners handbook.
Lights

Lights

To enhance being seen during the day or having the best visibility at night, ensure your lights are functioning in the correct manner. Below are some simple checks that you can undertake.

- Walk around your vehicle to check the operation of indicators, parking lights, headlights and tail lights.
- Remove any dirt or road grime from headlights, taillights and indicators.
- Ensure your headlights are aligned straight ahead and not off to one side or pointing towards the sky.
- Check that both the low and high beam are functioning.
- If you notice any of your lights are dull, have it looked at by your local Volkswagen Service Centre.
- Take note of any shaking or wobbling as the light may have become loose.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid transfers the pressure applied to the brake pedal to each of the wheels that activates the brake pads onto the disks or drums which in turn slow or stop the vehicle. Brake fluid is a specialised liquid designed to withstand extreme conditions and temperature variations. Over time moisture is absorbed from the surrounding air. During hard braking or high operating temperatures the brake fluid can overheat reducing the brakes effectiveness.
